DAC Worldwide’s Electrical Generation Fundamentals Training System (490-000) demonstrates the principles of electrical power generation. Using this trainer, learners will explore the skills that an operator must master in order to confidently operate modern generating equipment, such as the paralleling of generators and connecting to a larger power grid.

This electrical generator training system includes a variety of inductive, resistive, and capacitive loads that can be turned on and off, reinforcing the effects of reactive load and how power factor can change. Learners will use these components to study topics, such as AC generators, reactive power control, loss of load, and trainer operation. This system utilizes industry-grade components, providing durability to stand up to frequent use, and to aide learners in becoming better prepared for the tasks they will encounter on the job.

The Electrical Generation Fundamentals Training System also uses an LCD display to dynamically represent the abstract concepts of electrical generation, including a depiction of a synchroscope display and a phase-angle display, which represents the phase difference between running and incoming sources. In addition, a graphic representation of how load is shared by two machines of different sizes is shown using a generator characteristics curve. The relationship between real load and reactive load is displayed using analog meters and by a pictorial diagram of the power triangle on the LCD display.

This basic electricity trainer features an internal computer with analog and digital I/O in a steel cabinet, allowing for realistic analog input control, analog meters, as well as digital LCD screen outputs. The analog meters depict amps, megawatts, megavars, kilovolts, frequency, and speed.

The trainer also includes a realistic three-position breaker control switches, which creates working voltages of 110/220VAC, and are interlocked with the sync-selector switch and phased angle display. Learners will use these components to practice hands-on skills, such as correctly performing paralleling operation, generator responses to inductive/resistive/capacitive loads, calculating power factor, and observing a diesel generator autostart and load.

In addition, the trainer comes with an external video connection, allowing for presentations in wide-screen or 4:3 formats. The learning tool is also internally fused and includes carrying handles, allowing for a more versatile learning experience.
