This large-scale, realistic, industrial process system facilitates training in operations in field activities regularly undertaken by process operators within the refining, petrochemical and oil & gas industries, relating to a distillation process.
This working fractionation tower has been designed to support process technology (PTEC), process operations programs in US technical college programs. However, the device can also be applied to similar process operations programs in colleges and universities as well as within industry, directly.
A binary mixture of glycol and water (50/50 wt%) is used as a feedstock. The distillation process yields 99% purity water and glycol product. The glycol bottoms product is recycled to the feed, limiting the need for glycol inventory.
Available as an independent product, or as an add-on to the DAC #656 operations training skid, this large-scale training environment will provide realistic hands-on training in the functionality of a complete distillation process. The assembly includes a 32' high, 12" diameter functional distillation column. The device allows for distillation, with pressure manipulation through vacuum, feed rate changes, and experimentation with, or manipulation of, different feed composition mixtures, temperatures, and reflux ratios.
Activities focus on common tasks and formal procedures undertaken on a daily basis by operators in many industries. Examples include; operation of pumps and heat exchangers through manual and/or digital control systems, as well as manipulation of distillation tower operation parameters.
Fabricated to ASME standards, and incorporating durable state-of-the-art industrial control components, the system will provide years of trouble-free service, whether installed in an indoor laboratory or in outdoor environments.
With multiple installations completed to date, this proven, full-size tool will help make training more memorable, effective, and realistic to both incumbent workers, and trainees.
